But when John inhaled again and his chest puffed back out, he got stuck for good. He tried to exhale the air in his chest so that he could fit through a space that was barely 10 inches across and 18 inches high, about the size of the opening of a clothes dryer. The people who were rescued, successfully, in those previous close calls, were not as “deep” in the cave as John Jones. According to a family statement released Thursday, Jones will be remembered for. He leaves behind a wife and a baby daughter, and a second child expected in June.
